Why Should I Hire a Sleep Consultant?
Both parents usually have a lot to learn after bringing a new baby home! but moms bear the most weigh when it comes to new-born duties. Dealing with Lack of sleep on top of their healing body and crazy hormones can easily get them rolling down the hill to exhaustion and overwhelm.
In addition; Some moms must return to their jobs shortly after having a baby! So, working full time, pumping 5 times and functioning on couple of hours of sleep can easily bring them to the Edge! This however should not be the only Scenario….
There are sleep solutions that can get your baby and you sleeping through the night!
“With the wealth of information about sleep that is readily available online, in books or programs at everyone’s disposal, why should I hire a sleep consultant?”
I often hear this question; not necessarily exactly that way! but I know it’s a concern that a lot of parents have when they’re thinking about getting some professional help with their little ones’ sleep.
And it’s a valid question! After all, your mother managed to get you to sleep at some point. Your friend might have four kids who are all champion sleepers, so she should have some answers for you, right?
Well, yes! At least they might. But then again, they might not.
Most of the time, my clients are parents who have already tried that route and found it wasn’t successful, and there are dozens of reasons why that might be!
The biggest reason why the solutions that work for one parent don’t work for another is simple. They’re not dealing with the same BABY.
Some babies rely heavily on sleep props, others may not be getting enough daytime sleep. Some can’t sleep in a room that’s too warm or too cold, and others might be overtired. This baby might be ready to drop their second daytime nap, whereas that one might have developed an association between feeding and falling asleep.
And, of course, it could be any combination of the above, or any of the other sleep challenges that babies might experience.
Adding to the challenge is the fact that sleep solutions don’t work overnight, so parents might try a solution that could have help baby start sleeping through the night but abandon it before it took effect due to some heavy protesting on baby’s part.
In short, sleep is a complicated issue and there’s no “one size fits all” plan that can remedy sleep challenges overnight. Every baby and every situation has its own sleep solution and they will all require Patience, Consistency and Perseverance on the parents’ part.
A professional sleep consultant has the experience and training to recognize which problems result in specific symptoms and can work with you to develop a personalized plan for your child that addresses his/her individual issues. They can also provide support when things don’t seem to be working and give you the encouragement you need to follow through the plan until you see results.
Consider for example a personal trainer. You could just get some dumbbells and watch some YouTube videos in order to get in shape, so why pay someone to guide you?
Well, because they’re able to give you solid advice based on education and experience, they can help to keep you motivated, and they know how to respond to the problems that might arise along the way.
So when it comes to baby’s sleep, a professional consultant has the answers and support you need.
